of implementation in context of strategic provisions

Abstract

Purpose. The aim of this article is to present the partial research results that the author carries out as part of the research project (financed by Angelus Silesius State University) entitled “Lean Management in universities - implementation possibilities in the context of contemporary conditions and the changing needs of stakeholders” (2022-2024). The main effect of the project will be a proposed model for implementation of Lean Management (LM) in a university and a self-assessment form of the effectiveness and efficiency of the methods and tools used by the university (as part of the LM).
Design/methodology/approach. The aim of the article has been achieved as a review result of the latest literature on the subject as well as an analysis and critical evaluation of the strategies provisions of universities operating in several countries. The main research problem was the answer to the question: to what extent do the provisions (strategic goals) contained in the university's strategies relate to the concept of sustainable development and fit into the main idea of Lean Management, i.e. continuous improvement?
Findings. Modern strategies of universities very often refer to the need to constantly adapt their offer (research, teaching) to contemporary social and economic needs. Strategies and planned activities, by balancing the development of universities, fit into the concept of sustainable local, regional, national and global development. Therefore, it is important to make efforts to recognize the current needs and possibilities of universities regarding the implementation of the idea of sustainable development as part of research carried out in the academic environment and to search for effective and efficient methods and tools that will serve it.
Originality/value. The article is part of the need to recognize the current needs and possibilities of universities regarding the implementation of the idea of sustainable development and searching for methods and tools adequate to these challenges. This article presents results that are part of a wider research project. A review of the latest literature on the subject and strategic documents of universities in many countries is a valuable contribution to the development of management and quality science.
